There are unique stressors that women-identified inviduals (cis/trans) face for a variety of historical, social, and even biological reasons.

For example, you may struggle with body image concerns, self objectification, postpartum psychological symptoms, self esteem, sexual health difficulties, pelvic pain, sexual or relational trauma(s), reproductive transitions such as menopause, and others related to your experience of gender.

Dr. Merry brings a passion to help individuals with these topics complemented by research, training, and professional experiences. For example, her dissertation examined sexism and posttraumatic growth, as well as worked in Women’s Health clinics (ob/gyn, maternal and postpartum health). Her psychology residency had a focus on transgender care. She also formerly ran a consult group for psychologists on this topic.

First Responders and Medical Professionals-

First responders (veterans, paramedics, RCMP and others) as well as medical professionals (nurses, physicians, and others) may encounter unique challenges at work that can have impacts such as traumatic stress and other psychological concerns. Health Psychology-

Dealing with chronic health conditions including pain can take a tremendous toll. It is increasingly recognized that physical health occurs at the constellation of other factors, including not only biological, but also social, psychological, and even spiritual. Low mood, depression, irritability, panic, situational or general anxiety and others can impact day to day quality of life. Dr. Merry offers a variety of therapies that can assist with these concerns.

Culturally Affirming and Anti-Oppressive Therapy-

Culture, including spirituality, and identity matter. Research is increasingly showing that even micro-aggressions, or ongoing day to day experiences of discrimination, can have significant psychological impacts. Culture and spirituality may also inform values, and it is important to make them central to the healing process.
